How did we get to this point in a supposedly Christian country? Why does this government continue to promote a Culture of Death? All over Europe, the liberal left is legislating in favour of Euthanasia. What is clear is that after a short, two-month farcical process of “public consultation”, this administration seems determined to continue promoting the culture of death by introducing “voluntary assisted suicide”.
Apparently, it was not enough to push a “restrictive” abortion law through our parliament, to undermine the Embryo Protection Act, and use eugenics to permanently freeze human embryos. At the same time, it has emerged that only 10% of palliative medicines available on international markets are available in our hospitals. Is this a serious health care system? Not only that. The same government that just launched a national strategy against suicide now wants to provide the “remedy” of suicide for sick and elderly patients in hospitals. What an utter contradiction! As a result, our doctors may become complicit in killing rather than healing. This will inevitably lead to those who are considered terminally ill being seen as less valued in our society.
Furthermore, the argument that man is completely autonomous and has the right to choose death is false. Man’s autonomy is limited by the requirements of the common good of society and by the laws of God.
What is clear is that Maltese Christians, and Catholics in particular, have a moral obligation to oppose and resist this latest attack on human life and human dignity, through prayer and civic action. Euthanasia violates the commandment of God: Thou shalt not Kill.
We hope that our correspondents and subscribers will do everything humanly possible to resist the introduction of voluntary euthanasia, by the Grace of God and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Malta.
