While the Passion of Christ is Renewed in Islamic CountriesA MOSQUE AND APARTMENT BLOCK IN TA\u2019 GIORNI:<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

According to the Times of Malta<\/em> (7 November 2024): \u201cThe Libyan school in Ta\u2019 Giorni has applied for planning permits for a mosque and an apartment block on its grounds. The two separate applications\u2026 propose a two-storey mosque with a turret and a five-storey apartment block with 40 apartments and 42 parking spaces in the St Julian\u2019s suburb\u2026 Both projects are planned within the Libyan school grounds, which are owned by the Libyan Higher Vocational Institute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Calvary and Persecution of Christians Under Islam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Week reminds all Catholics of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, His sufferings, and the shedding of His most Precious Blood for the salvation of all men. The Passion of Christ is being renewed today in Islamic majority countries, Libya included, where Catholics are suffering persecution, both subtle and hidden as well as open and bloody, for their beliefs. We recall the appeal by the bishops of Sudan way back in 1992, denouncing \u201cone of the most horrible genocides (of Christians) in our times\u201d under Islam. This Islamic persecution of Christians by Muslim governments and terror groups continues unabated today and has, undeniably, got much worse in recent times around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contrast this persecution with the freedoms enjoyed by Muslims in the Christian countries of Europe where they freely build their mosques, while in Islamic states, churches are destroyed, Christians are slaughtered, and priests are kidnapped and murdered. As the Islamic anti-Christian persecution has undeniably intensified in recent years, the Maltese Society for Christian Civilisation \u2013 Pro Malta Christiana is formally appealing against the construction of this mosque and accompanying apartment building in Ta\u2019 Giorni by a religious sect that has always fought against Catholicism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mosque: Place of Worship or Centre for Propaganda?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us recall that mosques in Islamic tradition are quite different from Christian churches, the latter simply being places of prayer and worship. Under Islam, the mosque acts as an assembly for the Muslim community, as a centre for Koranic teaching, as a place for the administration of Islamic justice under Sharia law as well as for spreading political propaganda and, on occasion, for military purposes (Cfr. Encyclopedie de l\u2019Islam<\/em>, Leiden-Paris 1991, vol. VI, pp. 639\u2013695). Hence, for Muslims, the mosque is the religious and political fulcrum for the diffusion of Islamism. As we have seen recently in European countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and France, the Muslim immigrant population has been openly demonstrating for the implementation of Islamic Sharia law in traditionally Christian countries, something that is repugnant to our civilisation. For those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, whether they are considered \u201cmoderate\u201d or \u201cextremist\u201d, Muslims generally favour the Islamization of Malta and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Civic Objections: Is this Islamic Ghetto Project a Proper Model for Integration?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed application also envisages a 5-storey apartment block with around 40 apartments adjacent to the proposed mosque. Who will occupy these apartments? Will non-Muslim Maltese individuals and families purchase or rent these apartments? It is highly probable that they will not, even if the apartments will be available for sale or rent to the public. Indeed, it should be obvious that this would certainly not constitute a proper model of integrating Muslims within Maltese society, as this project will create a closed community, potentially detached from the life of the surrounding area of Ta\u2019 Giorni. What is this, if not the creation of an Islamic ghetto in St. Julian\u2019s?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The turret envisaged by the project\u2019s developers will function as a \u201cminaret\u201d where the \u201cmuezzin\u201d will call the Islamic faithful for prayer in a non-Muslim neighbourhood five times a day, according to Islamic law. These calls for prayer via microphone connected to a speaker system on the minaret will be made at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and at night. This is what the residents of Ta\u2019 Giorni can expect if this development goes ahead, not to mention the added car parking difficulties for Ta\u2019 Giorni residents arising from the influx of other Muslims from surrounding localities by car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Peaceful Protest and Appeal against this Proposed Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering this proposed project, the Maltese Society for Christian Civilisation \u2013 Pro Malta Christiana, a civic and cultural association of Catholic inspiration, strongly objects to this development and calls upon those public officials entrusted with defending and promoting the common good \u2013 namely Christian civilisation \u2013 not to sanction this project. Maltese Catholics and the residents of Ta\u2019 Giorni deserve better.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
