The trials we go through are the testing of our faith like gold in a fire and these trials prove the genuineness of our faith. And through all these trials our hearts are filled with joy because the trials are only proof of the wonderful future that lies in store.<\/p>\n
Of the three principal people who announced the coming of our Lord, apart from the great prophet Isaiah and John the Baptist whom Our Lord said was a prophet and more than a prophet, there is Mary, mother of Jesus whom Luke the Evangelist also shows us to be a prophet. Within days of the Annunciation, Mary prophesied about the joy of the future that lay ahead for her. She says in the Magnificat \u201cBehold, all generations shall call me blessed. His mercy is on those who fear him. He has exalted the humble and filled the hungry with good things.\u201d These are prophecies of the effects of the salvation of Christ both on Mary herself with her intimate link with her Son and on the poor and hungry. The Magnificat is a song of prophecy that also looks into the future: that the negative pride, rich and mighty are destined to fall away and give place to those who are sidelined and those who have faith.<\/p>\n
In our modern world and especially in Malta there are no shortages of the proud, rich and mighty. This week, we heard from the Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela, himself a doctor and a surgeon, that he wants to bring in assisted dying based on the UK bill that has just passed its second reading in the UK Houses of Parliament.<\/p>\n
Assisted dying is euthanasia and it is the killing of the disabled or sick. Life is sacred because God alone can make new life and he reserves to himself the time and place that we die and face him in judgment. The assisting of anyone to kill themselves is a double evil. Firstly, it is complicit in prematurely taking a life which is the prerogative of God alone. Secondly, it conceals the truth of Christ from the person seeking help for their affliction and therefore is an evil act, a deception, and an incitement to sin against the law of God that both the patient and doctor will have to answer for at their deaths. Thirdly, it is an especially deceitful twist on the part of a doctor who has been called by God to heal and save life to deceptively pretend that killing is now going to be better than a cure.<\/p>\n
Mr. Abela, being a Maltese surgeon, by pushing this forward, is acting particularly traitorously against Maltese society for which he is sworn both to serve as a minister, as well as to heal and cure as a doctor.<\/p>\n
Our Lord, in His mercy, kindness and love for the Maltese people, sent the Apostle Paul the Apostle to bring us light and truth, over 2000 years ago. This is a wonderful gift and no other country in the world has been favoured with an apostle being brought directly by a miraculous storm. We therefore owe a deep debt to Christ himself not only to keep His laws but to carry on the work of Saint Paul in modern times.<\/p>\n
Bringing in a law allowing doctors to kill in our society would be an outrage against Christ and the love that He has shown us Maltese. All Catholics must unite against this and tell Mr Abela and the Prime Minister that we Maltese choose the rules of Christ over the deceptions of Satan and will never allow assisted suicide into our country.
